Job Title: Business Development Manager, Grasslands

Reports to: President

Location: Field-Based – Location Flexible within Priority Geography


Position Summary:

AgriCapture is a mission-driven company that certifies Climate-Friendly practices on farms, ranchlands and grasslands and quantifies associated emissions reductions, enabling producers to generate revenue for their sustainable management practices. By certifying agricultural products as Climate-Friendly and developing carbon credits, we serve corporations that are reducing and offsetting their GHG emissions while empowering consumers to consciously select Climate-Friendly products. We are seeking a Grasslands Carbon Business Development Manager to join our expanding team and lead our effort to preserve soil carbon. By preventing activities such as tillage, cropland conversion, and synthetic fertilizer use, we can protect our nation’s grasslands and limit future greenhouse gas emissions.

As Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for sourcing new opportunities for AgriCapture’s grasslands carbon offset program by developing relationships with land trusts and landowners willing to conserve grasslands and get rewarded for storing carbon. This position is field-based, with an expectation of travel to attend conferences, network, meet prospective land trust partners and landowners, and develop an ecosystem of referrals. You will spend most of your time securing acreage for new carbon projects- researching suitable land trusts and contacting them or responding to referrals and introductions. You will lead project feasibility analysis, working with AgriCapture’s technology team and a dedicated technical Project Manager, and direct all communication with the land trust and/or landowner.

This role requires an individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a strong network in the land trust community in the following focus states: TX, OK, NE, KS, ND, SD, CO and MT, a willingness to travel, and a solid understanding of land conservation principles. This position will be structured with a salary and a commission-based annual bonus for performance-based compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Engage and educate land trust community to increase awareness of grasslands carbon offsets and develop strategic partnerships to enroll landowners.
  • Direct outreach to private landowners to provide an overview of the offering, including development and preparation of landowner information packets and proposals.
  • Attend relevant land trust/land conservation conferences, workshops, and industry events to generate business opportunities and educate attendees.
  • Coordinate responses to landowner (or landowner legal counsel) inquiries regarding project enrollment, in coordination with the land trust partner and with technical assistance from Project Manager.
  • Lead negotiations with land trust and landowners with input from AgriCapture leadership.
  • Provide regular reporting on pipeline to enable accurate and timely carbon credit sales.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong land trust network in target states (TX, OK, NE, KS, ND, SD, CO, and MT)
  • Bachelor or graduate degree in agriculture, natural resource conservation, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years’ professional work experience.
  • Understanding of, or experience with, Voluntary Carbon Markets is a plus.
  • Understanding of ecological concepts in land conservation, and a basic proficiency with ARC GIS, Google Earth and/or other mapping software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, set priorities, manage time, remain flexible and composed under pressure, and devote adequate attention to detail to maintain an efficient and organized workload involving multiple projects.
  • Enthusiasm to work in an entrepreneurial environment, a “self-starter” attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and comfort with online video presentations, such as Zoom or Teams.
  • Proficiency with standard PC computer software, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe products.
